RECOGNITION IN “THE POWER LIST 2020”

The Shiley Eye Institute and Viterbi Family Department of Ophthalmology at the University of California San Diego is proud to announce that Robert N. Weinreb, MD has been recognized again by “The Ophthalmologist” in “The Power List 2020”. Also recognized in the list were his former glaucoma fellows, Alex Huang ‘2013, MD, PhD, UCLA Doheny Eye Institute, California and Ningli Wang ’2000, MD, Beijing Tongren Eye Center, China.

The biannual list celebrates the achievements of 100 of the most influential figures, thought leaders and opinion shapers in the world of Ophthalmology today. The biannual list of 100 individuals from throughout the world is selected from more than 100,000 clinicians, scientists, industry executives and others.

Dr. Weinreb is the Director of the Shiley Eye Institute and Chair of the Viterbi Family Department of Ophthalmology at the University of California San Diego. He also is Distinguished Professor of Ophthalmology and Bioengineering, as well as holder of the Morris Gleich MD Chair of Glaucoma. Dr. Weinreb is a graduate of Harvard Medical School. He is a renowned clinician, a surgeon and a scientist. His clinical and research interests are diverse and range from the front to the back of the eye. They include glaucoma surgery, optic neuropathy and aging of the eye, imaging of the optic disc and retinal nerve fiber layer, mechanisms of optic nerve damage in glaucoma, neuroprotection of glaucoma, and cataract surgery.

The Shiley Eye Institute is the only academic institution in the San Diego area
with comprehensive programs for the clinical care of patients with eye disorders, cutting edge research on surgical techniques and treatments of eye diseases, education in the field of ophthalmology and innovative outreach to the community.
